About Open Innovations
Open Innovations (formerly ODI Leeds) is a not for profit, independent, mission led, radically open type of organisation. We like to work out in the open with our sponsors, companies, organisations, governments and individuals to use open data to innovate and help people make better decisions.
Since our creation, we have welcomed over 21 sponsors, hosted over 1100 innovation events and delivered almost 90 data projects that have helped to make an impact upon people's lives.
What we do
We work with companies, governments and individuals to build an open, trustworthy data ecosystem.
We advocate for and support practices that increase trust and trustworthiness: building ethical considerations into how data is collected, managed and used; ensuring equity around who can access and use data; engaging widely with affected people and organisations.
We help people identify and address how open data can be used effectively in their sector to improve decision making and processes, deliver more efficient and effective services and products, and fuel economic growth and productivity.
We connect, convene and collaborate to equip and inspire people around the world to innovate with data.
Open Innovations bring together communities, host events, produce open data projects and help promote understanding of open data in our region and worldwide, you can become part of our network by:
How is Open Innovations funded?
Open Innovations is an independent not-for-profit organisation funded by sponsors from local authorities, government, commercial, and academia, who all believe in the power of open data to drive social, economic, and environmental change.
Income is currently derived from sponsorship, data projects, innovation consultancy, virtual events delivery and workspace hire. All income is put straight back into Open Innovations - paying for the rent/maintenance of the space, the staff's wages, new equipment, and delivering our mission led innovations etc - to ensure the best possible experience and expertise for everyone who uses the space or services.
