September @ ODI Leeds
September has been a fantastic and hugely varied month here at ODI Leeds. Each month we plan to send out a quick blog to give you an idea of what's happening. ODI Leeds is a truly open organisation and as such keeping our members informed is really important to us.
So what have we been up to in September?
Data City
This month saw the Data City project come to life. Working alongside one of our sponsors, Bloom, the Data City has now been launched and the website is now up and running.
The Data City is a not-for-profit membership organisation, designed to enable organisations and individuals to use technology for the benefit of Leeds. Conceived by an every growing coalition of the willing across the public and private sector, the Data City represents a 'new way' for cities to be smart in how they adopt technology ensuring mutual benefit for citizens, suppliers and the local companies.
ODI Leeds Fridays
We decided to shake up the regular Friday Lunchtime Lecture series by including a number of Data Drop-In Sessions and Open Data Films. Attendance is free — you bring lunch at 1pm, we provide tea and coffee, an interesting talk, film or data drop-in session, giving you enough time to get back to your desk.
Student Data Labs
We're very excited to have seen Student Data Labs being established this month — data-driven innovation labs for university students. The Labs are for all university students interested in improving their employment prospects whilst tackling social problems. Founded by one of our Associates, Liam Bolton, we've been spreading the word at various university events in Leeds and across Yorkshire. If you're interested in getting involved visit studentdatalabs.com or email us at studentdatalabs@gmail.com
