ODI Leeds and Icebreaker One - Partner on Project Cygnus

ODI Leeds is very pleased to announce that we are partnering with Icebreaker One to work on their Project Cygnus until the end of 2020.

Project Cygnus is a EIT-Climate-KIC funded major new initiative for the UK & Ireland to support regions and countries in their economic recovery from Covid-19 while accelerating their net-zero carbon emission goals. To deliver this ambitious programme of work, Icebreaker One has joined forces with the Global Open Finance Centre of Excellence at the University of Edinburgh, the University College Dublin (UCD) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Icebreaker One are perfectly aligned with the ODI Leeds mission - particularly our #PlanetData and #RadicallyOpen work themes.

ODI Leeds will be working with Icebreaker One to do three things;

  1. Identify what Data Infrastructure already exists to support the economy with a Green Investment Recovery post Covid
  2. Catalogue Data and Build tools on the web, to help us all contribute to and understand this Data Infrastructure and support decisions for Investment in a Green Recovery.
  3. Find friends and partners to join in, collaborate and rapidly identify the use cases and data sources and that will make the biggest difference.

You can join in by taking part in Project Cygnus events, #PlanetData events, and contributing to the open documents below.

About Icebreaker One

Icebreaker One is exploring how to rapidly evolve our financial and energy systems to embed net-zero into all investment in a manner that is demonstrable, provable and uses data to hold organisations to account. Its flagship projects include: Project Cygnus, Open Energy and SERI.

Project Cygnus is looking at how 'economic recovery' money can be directed to net-zero. Open Energy is looking at how we can share information across the entire energy grid to keep the lights on and drive towards net-zero. SERI is looking at how insurance can be a lever of change by ensuring that things like net-zero solutions can actually be protected (e.g. some insurers won't insure EV) and drive change so that net-destructive industries are no longer viable.

Icebreaker One is a non-profit, non-partisan organisation funded by EIT Climate-KIC, Innovate UK as part of UK Research and Innovation (SBRI) and private sector members.
