The Northernlands conference returns for its fourth outing on 26 & 27 April 2022. We are delighted to be working with the Embassy for The Kingdom of the Netherlands once more to bring you accessible online sessions full of knowledge, insight, and generally cool stuff. The event series has always been about openly exploring and highlighting the connection that The North has (and could have) with its 'North Sea' neighbours, whilst also celebrating the people and organisations that are already working within this expanded 'northernlands.'

Every Northernlands event has an underlying theme (or set of themes). For the inaugural Northernlands in 2019, it was 'challenge / provoke / explore.' Talks covered a huge spectrum of innovative thinking, from the intangible economy to a stronger internet for everyone to open data engineering. Northernlands 2, designed and delivered during the summer of the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, featured more than 16 speakers across the themes of 'social interaction in a distanced world / mobility / open data saves lives / data collaboration.' Northernlands 3 followed in March 2021, focusing on 'health innovation / climate change crisis / economy and future work' as core themes for the guest talks.

So what is Northernlands 4 all about? Connectors and Innovators.

The impact of helping others to make the right connections should not be overlooked. We've seen first-hand through our many data innovation projects that removing barriers to collaboration, and providing time, space, and guidance, can make a transformative idea come closer to reality. There are some amazing organisations who are working hard to get all the conditions right to bring people together and foster a collaborative environment where ideas can flourish. These are the 'connectors.'

The 'innovators' are those people/orgs that want to make a difference. They are taking chances, they are questioning boundaries, and they are demonstrating what is possible.

Northernlands 4 is all about them. The connectors - like WYCA, Open Data Manchester, C4Di - and the innovators - like The Data City, See AI, Synap, Crysp - collectively using the rich innovation environment to accelerate projects and bring benefits to people faster.

Our events are never just 'show and tell' - they tend to be 'show, tell, talk and then do.' We encourage questions from the crowd, we want people to start conversations and make connections. We want people to go away from the session knowing what exists out there, how they can access it, and that there is a community of like-minded folk out there ready to help.

Northernlands 4 will be part of the incredible line-up for Leeds Digital Festival and we are making it as easy as possible to join in. If you register via Eventbrite, you'll be able to join us in Airmeet for all of the talks AND any Q&A. But if you miss out on a registration, that's okay - because we're also live-streaming the event to a dedicated webpage. Simply turn up at 12:00pm on 26 & 27 April 2022 to watch each session. You won't be able to ask questions unfortunately but you can always reach us on Twitter by using the hashtag #Northernlands4.
