Data ethics forum follow-up

Data Ethics Forum, 8th June 2023, 4.45pm-6.30pm, Munro House, Duke Street, Leeds, LS9 8AG

On the 8th June 2023, we hosted the Leeds Data Ethics Forum at our purpose-built space in Leeds. The forum was a pre-pandemic idea driven by Andrew Dyson, Managing Partner at DLA Piper in Leeds. After re-starting our exploration into Data Ethics, and discussing this with Andrew, we decided to restart this initiative. We wanted to include people from across Leeds and the North of England, alongside other experts in this field.

Those who spoke at the event were:

  • Dr Shyam Krishna, Postdoctoral Research Associate, The Alan Turing Institute.
  • Professor Christopher Megone Professor of Inter-Disciplinary Applied Ethics, Inter Disciplinary Ethics Applied Centre (formerly IDEA CETL, a national Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning) University of Leeds.
  • Eve Roodhouse Chief Officer, Economy and Culture, Leeds City Council.
  • Julian Tait, CEO, Open Data Manchester.

The event was open to the public, and we were happy to host 30 attendees, none of whom were specifically invited. Those who spoke and attended said that they made lots of notes and there was much food for thought.

We want to use the great work of the different institutes represented here to make Leeds a Digital Ethical Leader, pioneering safe digital work in Leeds and will be looking to build on this platform.

If you want to discuss Data Ethics with us, or have any thoughts, ideas or questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
