ODI lunchtime lecture: Using, improving, and creating new open data

As a special edition for Leeds Digital Festival, we will be hosting and streaming the Lunchtime Lecture for the first time outside of London! Tom Forth is the Challenge Team Leader at ODI Leeds. Having started in computational biology, Tom now runs software and data consultancy imactivate, and has a keen interest in solving problems. In particular, he wants to see change brought about in transport, housing, and inequality by using open data. Lots of people talk about what open data might achieve. Instead Tom will share what it has achieved, and how we're creating more. You'll hear about: Leeds Bins - a hugely-popular app that reminds people to put their bins out, and tells them what and where to recycle. The app is powered by open data that is updated and pushed to Data Mill North automatically every week and we share our user stats back to Data Mill North. Open Audience - a service that uses open data to create detailed audience reports from a list of postcodes. Mini Car Counter - uses second-hand smartphones to measure traffic flows, creating detailed open data on congestion in cities. A Clearer Plan and PDF for Planners - a first look at his newest project which builds on Leeds' decision to release more housing data than any other UK city.
