Innovation event - Tuesday 5 March 2019
For the innovation event, we want to bring people together to discuss and explore the potential for synthetic data - and other techniques - to help unlock insight and value from previously unpublished datasets. What are the challenges to anonymising data? What would be the best approach for synthetic data? Are their alternative methods that could prove just as useful? What are the other applications of synthetic data methodology? We are encouraging everyone to bring their perspective and knowledge to the event to help thoroughly investigate synthetic data for the NHS.
For attendees of the innovation event, here is everything you need to know to get the most out of the day
Location
A full map and further details can be found on this page but in summary, ODI Leeds is located on the top floor of Munro House. We are just opposite the Leeds bus station and about 15 mins walk from the Leeds railway station. Unfortunately, we have no dedicated car parking for the building but pay-and-display car parks are available nearby. If you are arriving by bike, it can be secured to the railings directly outside the building. The lobby has a wheelchair lift, and the lift serves every floor of the building. There are also accessible toilets on the 3rd floor. If you have impaired sight or hearing, please let us know upon arrival and we will do our best to make sure you're comfortable.
What to expect on the day
Munro House is home to a lot of creative businesses, such as the cafe/gallery and the book shop on the ground floor. There is a lift that requires an access code to operate. On the day of the innovation event, there will either be a member of the ODI Leeds team available in the lobby to help you operate the lift OR we will provide the access code via email the night before. When you arrive at ODI Leeds, you can help yourself to tea/coffee and get comfortable in our biggest room called The Gather. Lunch will be provided - we always aim to offer vegatarian, vegan, and gluten-free options but we need to know about food allergies asap. If you haven't already emailed us, please alert a member of the ODI Leeds as soon as you arrive.
We have tried to build the event to be inclusive - whether you are a data scientist or a policy person or just someone interested in synthetic data. As you can see on the agenda, there will be times where people can work directly with data or can work in group discussions. A laptop/tablet is not necessary for the day, but we would recommend that you bring something to take notes with and to potentially contribute to the Google Doc. If you are going to be working with the data, we will ask you to sign a data sharing agreement, which will be available via the main NHS SynAE page.

The method documentation and a sample dataset will be released for the audience to question, test, etc. Owing to the nature of the dataset, a data agreement must be signed before you are given access. The dataset will be provided on a USB drive to work with during the afternoon. No one will be left out - if you are not an analyst, data scientist, etc, there will be opportunities to take part in focused discussions to help address topics such as:
